First, I would like to raise a concern with the MOU. Item 0 states that special education teachers will provide instructional learning time in lieu of a secondary English Class. There is no secondary English class in 7th grade. Both English and Critical Literacy will cover the standards. Students who do not take both classes will not be receiving full access to the ELA curriculum and the curriculum standards. It is my understanding the teaming committee is proposing that WIN be used for ILT.

Second, I would like clarification on item 17. If planning for WIN is done during team time, does that mean that WIN intervention teachers will not be required to attend team meetings? Also, will WIN intervention teachers be exempt from lunch duty to plan for WIN lessons and complete the necessary data analysis?

    Thank you.

I would like to add that WIN intervention teachers would benefit from an effective and research-based intervention program. Also, it is important to cap the number of students in WIN interventions. WIN interventions must begin at the beginning of the school year to avoid student apathy that occurs when they spend an entire term doing homework or less challenging work.

Period 1 teachers still have additional duties even though it is no longer called a duty period. How can we alleviate these extra duties, especially at the beginning of the year?
